(Description)
One of the most defining masterpieces of my career is Yezemen Kanawoch, a high-end musical documentary produced in collaboration with Dawit Tsige, 16 Film Production, and Chaka Films.
Centered on the live, old-school recording of hit remakes like “Demama,” “Metmamen,” and “Yegele Nesh,” the project featured a legendary ensemble of Ethiopian music icons, including Abegaz Kibrework Shiota, Henok Temesgen, Girum Mezmur, Yared Tefera, and Aklilu from Yared School of Music. Serving as both Cinematographer and Senior Editor, I approached the visual language with a focus on unique framing, intentional blocking, and stylized interview compositions that broke away from traditional formats. My goal was to create a relaxed yet deeply engaging atmosphere, using cinematic cutaways to mirror the soul of the live performance.
